update

Update Runix to the latest version.

Usage

runix update [flags]

Description

Checks GitHub Releases for the latest version and downloads the appropriate binary for your platform. Verifies SHA256 checksums before replacing the current binary.

Examples

# Latest: v0.2.0
# Updating to v0.2.0...
# Updated to v0.2.0 successfully.

# Check for updates without installing

# Current: v0.1.0
# Latest: v0.2.0
# Update available: https://github.com/runixio/runix/releases/tag/v0.2.0

# Install a specific version

Flags

FlagDefaultDescription
--checkfalseOnly check for updates, do not install
--versionlatestInstall a specific version

How It Works

  1. Queries https://api.github.com/repos/runixio/runix/releases/latest
  2. Finds the asset matching runix_<os>_<arch>
  3. Downloads to a temp file
  4. Verifies SHA256 checksum from checksums.txt
  5. Makes binary executable (chmod 0755)
  6. Replaces the current binary (via rename or copy for cross-device)
  7. Reports success

Checksum Verification

After downloading, Runix verifies the SHA256 checksum:

  1. Downloads checksums.txt from the release
  2. Finds the hash for the matching asset name
  3. Computes SHA256 of the downloaded binary
  4. Compares the hashes

If verification fails, the update is aborted and the current binary is preserved.

Platform Assets

The asset name format is:

runix_<os>_<arch> # Linux/macOS
runix_<os>_<arch>.exe # Windows

Supported combinations: linux/amd64, linux/arm64, darwin/amd64, darwin/arm64, windows/amd64.
